Between 1978 and 1988, Hollis Richardson lived in the Salmon River Canyon near Riggins, ID. He regulary participated in many western art shows in the west, including the prestigious Charles M. Russell Show and Auction in Helena, MT.  The people in the local community, young and old, became subjects of his drawings. He frequently visited the Nez Perce Reservation near Lewiston to enjoy thier tribal celebrations. The beat of the drum, dancing and colorful native dress became inspirtation for many western paintings, all done in a traditional style. Feast Day, shown above is a small painting of a native woman cooking, that won Best of Show in two important shows in California and again in 1992 at the "National Small Painting Show"Albuqueque, New Mexico over 600 contestants. Seletected Shows and Awards lists will give you an idea of the breadth of his activity during that time.
