Hollis richardson on sucessful art
“All good artwork should have an abstract quality to it. The colors and composition should sing and have rhythm. Each piece should effectively include all the elements of design. I strongly recommend beginning artists take time to learn drawing skills before taking up painting. The point is not to become a realistic artist, but to learn to see space and shapes and master the art of composition before adding the element of color and progressing to original oil paintings.
People inquire about the source of my artistic inspiration. Subject matter for me, is subjective and comes as I work on the overall composition. I begin with ideas about color and shapes and then the painting develops spontaneously as I work. My paintings are an expression of my feelings and a realty that is beyond my ability to express verbally. It has taken me a lifetime to learn the technical skills and to create my visions with meaning and purpose. I am always reaching for that perfect combination of elements of art that communicates and elicits a response from the viewer. It is a never ending challenge to continually stretch for yet a better work of art with the elements of design. When you buy my art, you are buying more than an object, it something that is the culmination of my life experiences.”
